The ocean of flowers, hundreds of shades, dozens of species - it's impossible to pass by this grand garden, as Flower Festival starts in the very heart of the capital in GUM! Starting fr om June 28th, one of the oldest department stores in Moscow will be turned into a real greenhouse for a month. The traditional 5th annual Flower Festival will run here.
Famous actors, TV presenters, musicians, athletes and honored workers of GUM will act as gardeners on the opening day, June 28th. The experienced "florists", who take part in the spring tree planting within the Open Arts Festival "Chereshnevy Les" often, have already acquired their own traditions: someone makes whishes and someone sings when planting, someone even brings "happy" garden gloves. Creative people tinker with GUM's flower beds, so the discussions about where to plant petunia and whether yellow or purple are combined are always cheerful & careless.
370 000 flowers of 17 species are grown specially to decorate the building from inside and outside. Bright lozenges and intricate patterns composed of natural flowers will decorate the historic building within the festival. Carpets of fresh flowers will flourish along the lines of GUM, and flowerpots with petunias will decorate the facade of the building from the first to the third floors.
The fabulous flower variety on the lines, near the famous fountain and on the facade of the historic GUM building will amaze with an abundance of bright shades and scents. The perimeter of flower beds along the GUM facade will be illuminated. A special irrigation system featuring moisture retention technology was developed to keep the flowers fresh throughout the month.
Until the end of July, everyone will be able to make a walk along the blooming GUM garden, wh ere you will not be caught by rain. Living plants will blossom here for a month.
