Historical Motor Society Gorkyclassic and the main department store of the country with the support of the oldest watch manufactory Vacheron Constantin will bring to the start a full collection of Soviet-era rarities within GUM-Motor Rally on July 23rd. Jaguar Land Rover is also one of the partners of the event.
The bright and stylish event was established in 2014, and became the central event of the classic cars season in Russia in a short time. Competition for the main prize is held among the cars of Russian brands. The minimum age of participating cars is limited to 1985 year of issue – these rules are at the heart of the concept.
Over one hundred crews will take a new, unknown 100-kilometer route, traversing through the historic places of the capital. The competition takes place in two rankings this year: main GUM Cup (100 crews) and amateur VESNA Cup for the invited Bosco di Ciliegi guests.
Participants of the rally will gather in the morning at the walls of GUM in Ilyinka Street and in Vetoshny Lane. According to the tradition, there will be many famous figures of art, sport, business and politics, not indifferent to the retro cars. Crews - drivers and navigators - took care not only of the cars’ impeccable technical condition, but also thought out the looks: they were assisted by a professional team of stylists and make-up artists of Aldo Coppola, the Italian beauty center and beauty partner of the GUM Motor Rally.
According to the tradition, the honorable right to be the first to start is given to the winners of the last year's GUM Motor Rally - Alexei Prupes and Polina Surina who will drive Volga GAZ-24. The only motorcycle, the police "Ural" three-wheeler will be ridden by Anastasia Nifontova – the World Cup winner in rally races, silver medalist of the Dakar-2017 race. By the way, two more world champions in closed-circuit race will take part in GUM Motor Rally this year.
However, the winner cannot be predicted: the competition grows year by year, new enthusiasts, amateurs and professional pilots and navigators join the rally. The fate of the first place can be solved by a second, a delay or a technical malfunction. After all, the oldest participating car - the first Soviet mass passenger car phaeton GAZ-A – celebrates its 85th anniversary this year!
