The main store of the country tells about the main exhibition of the country. Photo exhibition "VDNH. Architecture. People. Events" was opened in GUM on August 10th. 78 years through the prism of the lens: here you can see rare shots from the collection of the Multimedia Art Museum, the archives of the TASS news agency, VDNH, seasoned & young photographers.
The shots show not only the ordinary VDNH visitors, but also the famous people, for example, the first cosmonaut of the planet Yu. A. Gagarin, the Hero of the Soviet Union, cosmonaut V. V. Tereshkova and others.
Most of the photographs are dedicated to colorful events and holidays of different years: the famous World Festival of Youth and Students (1957), the festival of the newspaper "Moskovskaya Pravda" (1990), the opening of the season of the famous fountains of the Exhibition (2016), and the modern renovation of the Arch of the Main Entrance, "Central", "Ukraine" & "Space" pavilions (2017).
VDNH, like GUM, has its own unique timeline, which is inextricably linked with the history of Russia. The times, the names of the Exhibition, the pavilions and management have changed, but VDNH is still one of the flagships of positive changes. The display will tell about the life of the main exhibition of the country - from 1939 to the present day.
"VDNH. Architecture. People. Events" is a retrospective of the impressions of photographers who shot the Exhibition for seventy-eight years. Most of the shots presented in GUM will be showed for the first time.
The exposition is built chronologically and is divided into periods: 1930-1940s, 1950-1960s, 1970-1980s, 1990-2000s, 2014-2017. The main part features the works of the classics of Soviet and Russian photography, and the freshest shots are made by the young photographers, the winners of the "VZLET" project.
Photo illustrations of the majestic architecture of the exhibition, which inspired photographers, is also on the display in GUM. The kept for us lace patterns of the "Culture" pavilion, snow-white columns of the "Central" pavilion, airy dome of the "Space" pavilion.
Over 100 original shots, many of which have not been published yet, will be on the display at the first line of GUM until August 31st.
