Alexei Myakishev is called the "singer of the Russian provinces": he shoots the domestic hinterland in a way that no one else can. His characters are distinguished by simplicity and originality, and the author's black-and-white photographs seem to come from old albums.
In the 90s, Myakishev worked as a professional photojournalist in his native city of Vyatka. After moving to Moscow, he collaborated with the Russian Newsweek and Kommersant publications, as well as the Finnish Helsingin Sanomat, APU, Talouselama. Later he began to work on documentary projects dedicated to provincial Russia. Alexey Myakishev is a winner of the InterPhoto festival of professional photography in 1998 and 2001 (for the series about pilgrims and the Northern Urals), winner of the Bestphotographer contests (for the Tskhinval-August series), The Best of Russia, Sony World Photography Awards, and also winner of the FRF award (for the series "The Way to Faith"). His exhibitions were held in Russia, France, Germany, Canada, Italy, the Czech Republic and Austria. The author's photographs are kept in the Pushkin Museum in Moscow, the Museum of Organic Culture in Kolomna, in the Leica Russia collection and in private collections.
Myakishev has released several personal photobooks. "Vyatka" is dedicated to his grandmother, who pushed the boy, who was orphaned early, to take up photography - thanks to her, Alexei bought his first "Zenith". In Kolodozero, Myakishev shows the story of a simple Karelian village priest. The book "Hod. The history of one pilgrimage” is dedicated to the Velikoretsky procession in the Vyatka region. “The value of photography is that we capture the moment, passing everything through ourselves, so that something special is revealed, but not too obvious. After all, obvious photographs are of no interest to anyone, ”says Myakishev.
The exhibition is open until May 25 daily from 10.00-22.00, admission is free.
