Celestial GUM: a new design from the famous Chinese artist
GUM traditionally dresses up for the New Year: for the first time in its timeline, we celebrate the arrival of the Chinese New Year, so the design is appropriate! The festive decoration of GUM lines and interiors was entrusted to the famous Chinese artist Jackie Tsai.
It was Tsai who created a print in the form of a skull of flowers for the British designer Alexander McQueen. Tsai's works were exhibited all over the world, including London, New York, Singapore and Hong Kong. So, in 2015 he became the first Chinese artist awarded a display in the Fine Art Society in London.
Especially for the festival "Chinese New Year in GUM" that will be held from February 8th to 28th, Jackie Tsai created art installations combining the elements of Chinese and Russian culture.
The collection, which can already be seen in GUM, includes 12 works brought from London, as well as 4 works from the Museum of Hong Kong: these are hanging compositions, sculptures, and paintings. Tsai created two paintings, made with acrylic paints on canvas especially for GUM.
Those impressed with Tsai's art can see the other works of the artist. They will be presented at a solo exhibition at the Moscow Museum of Modern Art in Gogol Boulevard from February 12th through March 11th.
