From June 10 to 16, the first large-scale all-Russian exhibition "Peonies of Russia" is taking place in the center of GUM, near the fountain. The exhibition, which has already become a total photo zone, will be held by the Foundation for the Promotion of Botanical Gardens in cooperation with GUM.
The peony blooming season has arrived, and for the first time in Moscow, varieties that have never been shown before are being presented. The exhibition will present over 250 varieties of blooming peonies – from well-known Soviet ones to the latest innovations of domestic breeders. As well as exclusive varieties that have just received official status, these are the latest achievements of Russian botanists..
"Peonies are not only a symbol of summer, but also part of the cultural code of Russia, our living history. In the very center of Moscow in GUM, we will show how we have preserved and increased the legacy of Soviet breeders, and at the same time we will present a new wave of Russian varieties that no one has ever seen before," says Alexandra Shcherbakova, director of the Foundation for Assistance to the Development of Botanical Gardens.
The unique live exhibition will present new author's varieties with poetic names: "Sensation", "White Carnation", "Swan Vernost", "Sofia Novgorodskaya" and many other new products. In addition, visitors will see rare domestic varieties that have already become legends: "Boris Yakovlev", "Memory of Lenin", "Lada", "Verochka" - these names are familiar to garden lovers, but the varieties themselves can only be found in private collections.
The exposition changes every two days. On June 10 and 11, the Peonies of Russia community, which unites professionals and enthusiasts, exhibited its peonies. On June 13 and 14, the Main Botanical Garden named after N.V. Tsitsin of the Russian Academy of Sciences, and on June 15 and 16, leading breeders of Russia and private collectors from Moscow, St. Petersburg, Voronezh, Veliky Novgorod, Tver and other cities..
The exhibition welcomes peony lovers from all over the country to admire, take photos, meet experts and choose the freshest varieties for their gardens.
