The Grand Opening of GUM Ice Rink and GUM Fair took place on November 29 at the Red Square.
The GUM Ice Rink is dedicated this year to beloved characters fr om the golden collection of Soyuzmultfilm cartoons: Cheburashka and Gena the Crocodile, the Wolf and the Rabbit from Just you wait, Winnie-the-Pooh and the inhabitants of Prostokvashino Village. This is no coincidence: in 2019 several of the above-mentioned animated movies will celebrate the 50-year anniversary of their release.
The opening event was attended by Ksenia Sobchak, Oleg Menshikov, Ingebora Dapkunajte , Yulia Peresild, Tatiana Tarasova, Anastasia Zavorotnyuk, Pavel Tabakov, Rinal Mukhametov and Suzanna Kezheva, Nikita Kukushkin, Sergei Filin, Camille Larin, Katerina Shpitsa, Andrey Burkovskiy, Tatyana Mikhalkova, Svetalna Zhurova, and many other celebrities.
Mikhail Kusnirovich invited the guests to the Ice Rink: “This is the 13th year when we bring the festive spirit to the center of Moscow. Our favorite cartoon characters make this season very special. We have prepared an interesting program for all ages including hockey and figure skating master classes, curling, ice shows, a fair with carrousels, and treats. Bring your whole family!”
Especially for the guests of the event the acclaimed figure skater Tatyana Navka presented some scenes from her new musical on ice – The Scarlet Flower. The world premiere of the show will take place at Megasport Palace of Sports in Moscow on December 25. Guests enjoyed dancing on ice by Tatyana Navka and Peter Chernyshev, two-time Four Continents Champion, as well as an open-air fantasy including the whole cast of the show.
Tatyana Navka shared her feelings with the audience: “Skating at Red Square always makes me very happy. I come to the GUM Ice Rink not only as a performer, I also always bring my family with me. It is always a blast, as if we going back to our childhood! GUM, the Red Square, ice cream, the Kremlin striking clock, a wonderful fair wh ere you can take a ride on carrousels and enjoy the shows. It really is a fairy-tale come true.”
2018 was announced as the Year of Volunteers in Russia, this is the reason why volunteers were among the audience of the GUM Ice Rink opening ceremony for the first time. This event will also launch the celebrations of the National Volunteer Day (December 5). The Ambassadors of the Volunteer Day – Polina Gagarina and Stas Pyekha – and head of the Year of Volunteers Administration Ksenya Razuvaeva talked about the mission of volunteer services.
“I am very happy that more and more people get involved in volunteer work, the competence and knowledge of volunteers help to resolve many problems of our communities. Thank to medical volunteers the donor blood bank was replenished by 6.7 tons, participants of Lisa Alert movement managed to save 8.5 thousand people, more than 63 tons of garbage were collected by volunteers in different parts of the country. More than 22 thousand houses were improved and reconstructed”, – said Polina Gagarina in her speech.
The GUM Fair with its many chalets and decorated New Year trees brings you the joys of a winter city right in the middle of the Red Square. Here you can ride carrousels and amusement arcades. Lovers of Russian cuisine can indulge themselves with pancakes, meat pies, pirozhki, meat delicatessen, and hot corncobs. You can warm yourself with aromatic mulled wine, mead and tea from samovars. The collection includes T-shirts, sweatshirts, hats and badges with the favorite cartoon characters. Chairman of the Board of the Cartoon Studio Soyuzmultfilm Yulianna Slasheva said: “This year, Soyuzmultfilm together with Bosco created a real fairy-tale. We are very grateful to our partners for the care afforded to our cartoons. They overdid themselves this year, you should see how much love they have put in the decoration of the stores. I will certainly recommend to all my friends to visit GUM!”
World champion, hockey player Alexei Yashin will give master classes for everyone. During the lessons, the sportsman will share his professional secrets and demonstrate his best moves. The master-classes are not for professionals and hockey experts, but for those who love the game and are planning to improve their technique.
