The movie club, featuring renowned movie expert Galina Aksyonova, will kick off on December 12, at 8:00 PM with the dark comedy Arsenic and Old Lace.
In 1944 director Frank Capra began working on a film version of a popular Broadway dark comedy. The play was based on a real story about a resourceful retirement house owner. The compassionate lady would send senior citizens dealing with depression to journeys from which there was no return. Arsenic, strychnine, or potassium cyanide with a glass of fine wine – what could be better for a lonely man?
Dr. Einstein is played by actor Peter Lorre who “looks like the famous Boris Karloff”. It is surprising that there is also a place for a love story. Cary Grant even plans his honeymoon trip.
