New Ortlitsky vs. Tuzov Exhibition Opens at GUM-Red-Line
The Orlitsky vs. Tuzov exhibition opened at the GUM-Red Line Gallery. It is the first public “battle” between two young artists, Maxim Orlitsky and Ivan Tuzov, working in completely different genres and techniques.
As Hegel stated, the most important attributes of painting are color and space delineation. Maxim Orlitsky is a painter in the Hegelian mold, as he treats color as something material. He focuses as much attention on the form of his painting, and he frequently divides a single piece into several parts.
Ivan Tuzov is an artist representing the age after the introduction of the Internet. He uses pixelized images. The aesthetic focused on memes and thumbnails defines the visual paradigm of our time. The new symbolic structures are similar to hieroglyphics. Hieroglyphics by Tuzov are grotesque and ironic.
The Orlitsky vs. Tuzov exhibition represents a miniature model of a museum. The museum is the place that brings together humor and pathos: the universal classification systems of a museum is a framework within which everything is possible; it unites trends of varying nature.
The exhibition occupies two halls, one of which houses works by Max Orlitsky, and the other — pieces by Ivan Tuzov. The art battle took place during the vernissage on January 24. The exhibition runs until February 4, 2020. See you at GUM-Red-Line!
