For this season's collection, Sir Paul Smith found inspiration in his rekindled memories about the trip to downtown New York City in the '70s.
During his trip to New York at that time, Sir Paul experienced all the liveliness and energy of the emerging Soho art scene. Back then, many galleries were expanding to new spaces in the heart of the metropolis, instead of the usual art conglomerate located on the Upper East Side.
The SS 2020 collection epitomizes the nonchalant elegance reminiscent of the clothes the bohemians of New York wore in the '70s. Practical sports nylon slacks are combined with oversized leather jackets; the designer actively uses quilted silk in the men's line. The colors of the collection echo the palette of pop art — from pastel hues of dusty pink and caramel to electric shades of bright yellow and blue.
