Salvatore Ferragamo reveals the Refracted collection for the 2019/20 Fall-Winter season. The Refracted motif is inspired by the diverse and ever-shifting world around us. The five shoe styles line was developed by creative director Paul Andrew. The models are very different; the only thing that they have in common is their light-refracting heel.
The innovative heel shape comes in three heights (1cm, 5,5cm, 8cm). The heel design uses high-strength but ultra-light plastic, which is then covered with a shell of galvanized metal. Laser treatment creates the shape of a heel, which is a geometry of irregular triangular faces. This is how the interaction between shoes and the world is born through the unpredictable refraction of light.
"The Refracted collection is a logical extension of the flower-shaped heel, based on the revolutionary Column "multi-column" heel, which Salvatore Ferragamo designed in 1939. Through this design, I wanted to offer a reflection of the world that surrounds us in 2019. Due to the apparently unpredictable play of light on the surface, this heel is designed to show beauty and diversity - the fundamental elements of the philosophy of "Mosaic characters" which has been a guiding light for our design team for several seasons. With each look at the refracted heel, it will seem completely different. And that's its strength," Paul Andrew explained.
