On October 2, GUM Cinema presents a lecture with Katerina Krupnova on fashion and clothing in film centered on the film Belle de Jour.
The infamous 1967 film by Luis Buñuel made Catherine Deneuve a serious dramatic actress (she is still referred to as Belle de Jour). The great director found an ideal woman to impersonate the beautiful Severine — seemingly a charming housewife who works at a brothel during the day. Buñuel noted that Deneuve “is as seductive as sin and as honest as a virtue”. This effect is only underlined by the clothing that the legendary Yves Saint-Laurent created for Deneuve.
