In December 2019, CHANEL opened a new boutique at GUM on Red Square, in the very heart of Moscow. It was an event long-awaited by all of the brand’s admirers. Finally, a new 630 sq.m. CHANEL boutique opened its doors on Line 1 of the No. 1 Department Store of Russia. The two-story boutique accommodates prêt-à-porter collections, bags, shoes, costume jewelry, and sunglasses, as well as jewelry and watches.
The new boutique space was designed by New York architect Peter Marino, who reinterpreted the style and aesthetic codes of the CHANEL Fashion House, finding the optimal spatial solutions to embody them. The interiors include furniture in a classical style and a wide array of materials and textures. Contemporary artworks acquired for the CHANEL Boutique at GUM hold a special place in the traditional CHANEL black-white-gold color palette: a collage with camellias by Peter Dayton, the black-and-white print Bricks by Shelter Serra, lithographs by Agnes Martin, and a white-gold painting by Thomas Fougerolles. At the back of the hall on Floor 1, by the stairs, a giant garland-necklace made of golden Venetian glass balls by French sculptor Jean-Michel Othoniel descends from the ceiling. It symbolizes pearl threads, dearly adored by Mademoiselle Chanel, and it attracts all eyes.
